Agriculture and Climate Change

Beiträge zur Ethik und Biotechnologie, Band 15 (2022)

This volume examines the ethical issues that arise at the intersection of climate change, climate action, and agriculture. Climate change impacts will threaten agricultural production, food security, and food quality around the world and require large-scale adaptation measures in agriculture. Simultaneously, the significance of food related climatic emissions calls for systemic transformations that will change how we eat and will have far-reaching socioeconomic and cultural impacts. To understand the ethical dimensions of this complex issue, the report draws on food and agricultural ethics as well as interdisciplinary food system studies to provide a synthesis of agricultural and food ethics in times of climate change and different ways in which these questions can be approached. The report argues for the importance of adopting a food systems wide perspective on addressing climate change in order to understand the diversity and nature of related ethical questions and of appropriate solutions.
